Suggestions
- Be clear about your organization’s policies before making a referral.
- Do not diagnose or discuss employee’s personal problems. Focus only on job performance facts.
- Document job performance facts over a reasonable period of time. Do not rely on your memory; stick to the facts.
- Do not make threats. Explain clearly what will happen if work performance does not improve.
- Do not terminate an employee for not using the Employee Assistance Program. Terminations must be based on job performance facts.
